MICHAEL L.
SIMPSON
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF
I will be running in the November general election for my first full term as Preble County Sheriff.
On December 19, 2003, I was appointed to fill the un-expired term of Sheriff Thomas Hayes, who died unexpectantly on December 3, 2003. I am currently serving as your Sheriff.
I am a lifelong resident of Preble County, growing up in New Paris. I graduated from Eaton High School and the Montgomery County Joint Vocational School in 1985 and received my peace officer’s certification in 1986.
I have been with the Preble County Sheriff's Office since July 1988 when I was hired as a corrections officer. I have served as a deputy sheriff assigned to road patrol, Captain, Chief Deputy, and Sheriff. I am beginning my 17th year of service.
I am a graduate of the 141st class from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command, and the 217th session of the FBI National Academy, and have acquired numerous certifications in law enforcement training throughout my career.
The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for many duties, including operation of the 70 bed county jail, serving civil and criminal documents for the court systems, and providing bailiff services to county courts. The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in the county, and is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas in the county. We also provide law enforcement services to incorporated areas who do not have an organized police department, or full-time police protection. We also provide communication services, including 9-1-1 dispatching for all law enforcement, fire and EMS services in the county, with the exception of the City of Eaton.
The staff at my office is dedicated to providing professional, reliable, and competent law enforcement related services to the citizens of Preble County each and every day. We look forward to the challenges ahead as we strive to make our community a safe place to live and work.
I thank each of you for the support shown to my staff and I. I look forward to my first full term as your Sheriff, and consider it an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Preble County.
