
In 2001, State Senator Jim Jordan was sworn in to the Ohio Senate as State Senator of the 12th Senate District, which includes Allen, Champaign, Darke, Mercer, Preble, Shelby, and parts of Auglaize County. Jordan was first elected to the Ohio General Assembly in November 1994 and went on to serve three terms as State Representative of the 85th House District.
As a member of the Ohio General Assembly, Jordan has worked to serve the families and citizens of west central Ohio. Several of his legislative efforts have resulted in politive changes in Ohio law. For his hard work, Jordan was named Watchdog of the Treasury (1196, 2000), Outstanding Freshman Legislator (1996), Friend of the Taxpayer (1997) and Pro-Life Legislator of the year by the United Conservatives of Ohio (1998) as well as receiving the "Defender of Life" award from the Ohio Right To Life Society. He recently received the 2001 Leadership in Government Award from the Ohio Roundtable and Freedom Forum.
Jordan was reised in Champaign County, graduating from Graham High School in 1982. In 1986 he recieved a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. he later earned a Master's degree in Education from the Ohio State Universty and in 2001 earned a law degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
Throughout his academic career, Jordan was regarded as on of the top wrestlers in Ohio and the United States. While attending Graham High School, he captured four Ohio State Wrestling Championships, compiling and overall record of 150-1. He continued his success at the University of Wisconsin by winning two NCAA and Big Ten wrestling titles and later placed third in the 1988 Olympic Trials. Jordan has remained very involved with athletics. From 1987 to 1995, he was the assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University. While at OSU, he coached four athletes to wins at the NCAA championships, six to Big Ten titles, and eighteen to All-American honors. Jordan continues to work with student-athletes by conducting summer wrestling camps.
Senator Jordan is a member of the Champaign County Republican Executive Committee. The Jordan family also attends Grace Bible Church in Springfield.
Jim, his wife Polly, and their four children (Rachel, Benjamin, Jessie, and Isaac) live near Urbana in central Champaign County.
